THE SLINKY

When I was a little girl,I use to take my slinky and let it "slink" from the top of our upstairs stairway, all the way down, to the livingroom.I thought it was so cool watching it flip over and over itself all the way down! You don't see slinky's too much anymore, do you? They sorta remind me of God's enemies, valiantly trying to get away, or "slink" away from Him.They will flip over their own feet not to be in His presence, because they know He will convict them! Sin doesn't like God, but as His children, we love Him, so this should sorta tell us something, shouldn't it?
I'd rather be a slinky "desiring to be in His presence", and flipping head over heels for Him, than slinking away like sin.....wouldn't you?

GRANDMOTHER'S NECLACE

I did have another grandmother, while I was growing up.
This grandmother was the one who always gave me Vanilla Wafers for dessert, which I didn't like! She made wonderful biscuits and would never, ever be caught holding the "Old Maid", when playing the card game.....(Woe was me!)
Does that tell you anything? She was married to the Grandaddy who told me all my Brer Rabbit stories, so maybe that's why.......
She had a round gold locket that she wore, when my Daddy was teething as a baby. It had a teeninsy diamond on the back and her name was engraved on the front. The neatest thing though, were the teeth marks, where my Daddy use to bite, or "teethe" on the locket, when she was holding him.
This is a beautiful reminder to me of their love, but more so of how we need to stay so close to the word of God, that when we need the comfort of our Heavenly Father, we can almost bite into His word, and digest every delicious morsel.......
If we do this enough, and people see it in us, then, we too, have left our mark.....for Christ!

GOD FIRST

As I listened to Michael Easley talk this morning, about being firm on what we believe, and letting our beliefs be not only on our door posts, but in our hearts as well, I recalled the glassed framed sign that hung over my Grandmother's bedroom door, at her trailer, that simply stated....."God First". That was her motto in everything she ate, breathed, prayed, read, slept or talked, as long as I ever knew her.......It would stand us in pretty good stead today, to engrave it on our hearts, once again.
Putting God first, in our hearts will keep us first in God's heart too!
We put on a coat to cover us; make up to make us look better; curlers to do something with our hair.....
So, why not let others know who we are on the inside, as well as the outside? Like Joseph's coat of many color's......This is our coat of God's many blessings!
Grandmother's little framed plaque is sitting in my kitchen window, and whenever I look at it, I am reminded of who needs to be first in my life, and when He's first, then my belief's will be written all over my face!

A GOOD RECIPE

Most of you know, how very much I love to collect recipes. Especially ones belonging to my Mother, her friends, and my Grandmother.......They were always good and reflective of their delightful character!
You could try them over and over again, and they would always come out the same way.
In the same way,I think Christ wants us to be a recipe for Him too. We can be the recipe for a tried and true Christian who has been mixed in with the world, and baked under the furnace of affliction, but who will ultimately rise under the rays of a Heavenly "Son," who has overcome the world!
Now, isn't that some delicious recipe?

THE CLOUDS

After Kay,Mary,Edie and Margaret left to go back to Aiken today,I sat out on the porch at Edisto, and just gloried in the sun's rays, as they radiated out from the sun above!
Oh how glorious!.........I noticed, that even though the clouds seemed to look as if they were dark in color, the brilliant white rays still penetrated the darkness.
God's love is just like those rays too!
No matter how much darkness has been in our life, it changes, once we give our life to Christ! He will overcome all the darkness and shine right through it! Give Him a try!
To God be the Glory!

THANK YOU FOR KEEPING ME COMPANY

When Mike Kellogg signs off, in the wee hours of the morning, he usually does so, by saying:
"Thank you for keeping me company"......
When he does this,I'm reminded of how our Heavenly Father must feel when we keep Him company with our prayers and thoughts......

THE MONARCH'S

Kelly and I were leaving in the Silver Blue Bullet today, while at Edisto, and just as we were pulling out of the yard, we both glanced up at the tree tops, and noticed about 100 Monarch Butterflies flitting all around the trees and bushes. I have never seen this happen before, so it was a blessing and, it was awesome!
It was almost as if God was raining down orange and black moveable postcards from Heaven, just to us.....What an ingenious way to tell us how much He loves us!

THE ROACH

As I was putting on my face this morning,I noticed a live roach, just about "to die", and if there's one thing,I absolutely can't stand, next to spiders, it is roaches!!!
So,I found a shoe, and smushed the thing! It didn't stand a chance.......
But, it left a mess everywhere on the floor, as a reminder! I thought about how sin is kinda like this yucky 'ole roach! .....First of all, it's nasty!
Secondly, it manages to creep in, when you don't want it to, and no matter how hard you try to get rid of it,you will always have the remnants, or consequences, left behind, to deal with as a reminder.....
It's not always easy for me to "flush" sin down the commode, and mop up the consequences, either!

WHODUHTHUNKIT ???

This is sort of a "Thank You" letter to all of my Journeymen, and women........ my friends who have taken the time to go on these journey's with me,each day!
It's so important for us to remember that God is first in our lives, and it really is a journey for us to be more "Christ like" in our behavior. It's hard,I know, but it is exciting......
I think that's what Christ wants to see us doing too. He wants to see us trying to take these journeys.
I think these are the fragrant aromas that drift up to Him everyday, and isn't that nice?
I'm glad you decided to come along with me, and give Glory to a wonderful God.......and He is that, indeed!
Thanks for coming along, for as long as He gives me to do all these delightful sketches and journeys....
Whoduhthunkit, after 911???

GRANDMOTHER'S RING

Every year, about this time,my fingers begin to shrink in size, and all my rings, begin to fall off my fingers, including my wedding band.Thankfully though, I have my Grandmother Bouterse's gold wedding band, that must have been a smaller size, because it always fits my finger, at this time of the year....
When I put it on my finger,I always remember the scratches and dents, that were once emblazoned upon its surface, but, that are now polished off, from years of wear.
I feel kinda close to her, too, when I wear her ring!
Kinda like our Savior's love, isn't it?
With all the dents, bruises and scratches, we have in our life, it's kinda nice to have the polish of our Savior's redeeming Grace to shine us up.......
And besides that, it makes us feel pretty close to Him too!

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

To God be the Glory:
Great things He hath done.......Yes, indeed! While I was at Edisto, I received word, that Bill Ashton has come home, from MUSC, for his treatments for Leukemia. What praise and thanks do I lift to You Father, in answer to the many uplifted prayers from so many people in his behalf.
What a modern day miracle to bring this special and dear man through those chemo treatments and finally delivering him home, for the first time in several months.
He has found shelter under Your wings,Oh God, and You have upheld him, with the Right Hand,of Your Righteousness, and have held him close on those rough days.
Thank You too, Father, for those faithful Prayer Warriors, who have diligently and faithfully, prayed for him these past months.
You are so beloved,Lord God, for loving us as You do, even when we are so unlovely, and I thank You for Your abundance of Mercies everyday.
Great is thy Faithfulness,Lord, and You certainly have been faithful to Bill , in restoring his health. Thank You Lord of all.
Amen..........

THE PROMISE

Just as David promised Jonathon, that he would take care of his infirmed son, when Jonathon died, so God too, has promised us, in His word, that He will take care of us......David didn't forget his promise!
God never forgets His promises either !

BE THOU MY VISION

He looked up, and there she was, this vision of loveliness, as his bride walked down the path, on the arms of her mother and father, to the melody of "Be Thou My Vision".
She stopped short of the alter, and gave both her parents a hug and kiss goodbye,as he did,his mother and father also. They, then met and walked together, towards the little Pisgah church chapel alter, in Tallahassee,Florida, but, it was the melody of "Be Thou My Vision", that has lingered long after within my heart and mind today...
Just as Ben, only had eyes for Meghan, and she for him, we are likewise, to have our vision on our Lord, and light up too, when we think of Him! His vision is for His church, and we are the body of His church....... so this could sorta be our love song to each other!
We are His vision, and He is ours!

TRAIL OF CHEERS

"Oh, When Those Saints, Go Marchin' In...."
My,My,My, did that song ever dredge up some memories?!
Here all the Prime Timers were, at this lovely home in Varnville, listening to the trio on the guitar;banjo, and keyboard, singing that song.......
I could almost envision the multitudes as we marched on into Glory! Oh,how wonderful that will be,one day.
I remember learning about the Cherokee Indians, and how they had to move away from their original homes, and how this became known as "The Trail Of Tears".
I think when we leave our homes behind, here on earth, and head towards Heaven, it will be called, instead, ......
"The Trail of Cheers"!!!

PRIME TIME!

What a treat for all of us, on this Saturday, folks!
My Prime Timers were invited as guest of a local orthodontist in Cummings,SC, today, and boy howdy, were we ever treated!
Our eyes were given a vision of a beautiful lake home, landscaped in all kinds of trees;plants;ponds brimming with fish, and even a waterfall!
My idea of "Heaven on Earth"!
Oh, you guys, this place is absolutely wonderful..........I mean, you can really get a vision of what Heaven could look like, it's so peaceful! What a treat this has been! The group that is singing and playing, right now, also plays in a band, with the ortyhodontist, and just listening to them,it sounds as if they might know our Heavenly Father, too!
You know,it's "wonderful" nuggetts like these that the Lord keeps giving me, that allows me to see just what Heaven will be like,....... all the time!(Without the bugs, ofcourse!)
