GIFT WRAPPED OR TRASH???
As a young girl,I would always look at pictures and think they looked like someone.(I still do)
Maybe the clouds looked like a dog, or something like that. Well, I learned a lesson on how words can get you in trouble....and hurt......even some 51 years after the fact!
I was 10 years old, and in the 5th grade, and had seen a picture on the blackboard of a lady with a big nose.In my 5th grade wisdom,I remarked that it looked like Mr. Gibson's new wife. After the "tattletale" told Mr. Gibson, when he came back into class, he said these words to me, that I have never forgotten(that's 51 years later folks!). "You are lower than the lowest earthworm, and don't deserve to sit on the first pew of a church."
Now, I have long since forgiven him, but those words etched their image in this little girl's brain so long ago, that she has never forgotten them.
We need to remember the power of the spoken word, and be careful of how we represent our Lord by the words we use. Even Christ told us that we needed to watch this part of our body with care, because it can be damaging, if not tamed.
Will we gift wrap our words?
Or will they be words we throw in the trash?
The choice is ours.....
Becky
